MHz Networks Selects LTN for the Distribution of its National Channel, MHz Worldview
SAVAGE MD, October 6, 2010 – LTN Global Communications, Inc. announced today the commercial availability of its IP video communications services platform, designed for the real-time global transport of broadcast quality video signals.
As a first in the industry, LTN now enables worldwide broadcast quality video communications from multiple locations to multiple locations on a live bi-directional basis, with minimal latency. The service has been tested extensively with over 99.999% reliability.
Compared to satellite technology, LTN offers global rather than regional coverage, better availability, reduced latency and lower cost. In relation to dedicated fiber networks, LTN offers superior global coverage, faster deployment and lower cost.
LTN’s platform is also highly flexible, enabling customers to provision multiple channels at dynamic bit rates ranging from 200 Kbps to 150 Mbps per channel. The service requires the customer to only have Internet access and an IP encoder or decoder at each location. As such, LTN can initiate service within one week of receiving an order.
LTN employs a worldwide proprietary IP network that directs traffic and corrects for packet errors on a lower-level physical network. For its core physical network, LTN utilizes Internet connectivity from multiple carriers to ensure the lowest cost and largest coverage in the industry.
MHz Networks, an independent, non-commercial U.S. television broadcast network delivering premier international programming, turned to LTN earlier this year to bring live sports from Australia that are part of the MHz Worldview primetime programming schedule.
After experiencing the benefits of the service, MHz now expands its relationship with LTN to distribute MHz Worldview to its network of over 30 broadcast and cable affiliates throughout the United States. The channel is available to over 34 million households throughout the country through its affiliate network.
Malik Khan, Executive Chairman of LTN, says, “MHz Networks has been an excellent customer for LTN. We have enjoyed fulfilling several roles that MHz has asked us to play, and we look forward to working with MHz in this expanded role.”
Frederick Thomas, MHz Networks Chief Executive says, “We have been very pleased with LTN’s service. The cost, coverage and performance aspects have led us to conclude that LTN’s offering is preferable to satellite and fiber for our applications.”
