    Position Description:

    The NOC Lead will be responsible for assisting in managing and carrying out the core functions of the 24-7 Network Operations Center located in Liberty, Missouri, as it relates to production and added-services workflows. The NOC Lead will understand all services provided by the NOC, and be capable of training new NOC employees on various workflows and platforms.     • Participate in technical research and development on network related topics to enable continuing innovation and new capability development within the company

    About the Position

    The Infrastructure Software Engineer is part of LTN’s core engineering team and plays a key role in developing the tools and software needed to operate servers and networking infrastructure at a high level of service and reliability. You will plan out needed infrastructure and create tools, libraries, and APIs to support data collection, analysis and reporting. Work with internal customers to design and develop usable and effective tools and interfaces for automation and develop tools to improve and optimize internal process workflow to make the entire team more effective.

    Responsibilities

    • Deploy and develop tools to improve existing data and service management
    • Review and influence the design and standards of services and software with a focus on reliability, manageability and observability
    • Support a unique multi-datacenter highly available service
    • Respond to and resolve unexpected service problems, participate in post-mortems and provide guidance on ways to prevent future problems
    • Create monitoring dashboards and instrument services to capture and publish essential metrics and use this data to define alerts
    • Proactively and collaboratively work with development teams to ensure that new software works efficiently and reliably across multiple platforms
    • Maintain very high-quality end user experience during service upgrades and new feature releases
    • Take ownership of infrastructure components or services either on your own or as part of a team

    Qualifications

    • Skilled with developing software tools in Python
    • Linux experience including Bash scripts
    • Development experience with web technologies and frameworks
    • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and propose solutions to identified scalability, performance or reliability issues
    • Experience with Linux networking fundamentals or software defined networking in the data center
    • In-depth Linux system experience with OS level troubleshooting and service design
    • Experience with developing flexible code that can solve simple problems quickly, and scale up to solve more complex problems
    • Have written Puppet modules or similar code for standard configuration management systems (Ansible, SaltStack)
    • Experience in supporting large-scale systems (100s - 1000s of servers) with automation and tooling
    • Experience increasing system observability through logs and time-series metrics
    • In-depth and proactive communication and documentation skills
    • Initiative and ability to work independently, and as part of a team
    • Knows when to escalate decisions and when to make on-the-spot decisions
    • Engineering/Computer Science degree
    • Ability to participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation

    Preferred Experience

    • Knowledge of release automation and orchestration technologies
    • Experience with REST APIs
    • Have worked on one or move public cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP/IBM) and understand how to troubleshoot and manage services on them.
    • Experience with TCP/UDP/IP networking including routing and switching
    • Demonstrated ability to combine deep technical expertise with a continuous improvement and automation mindset, and systematic root cause analysis to identify the best ways to improve service performance and reliability.
